The Alzheimer’s Association California Southland Chapter is putting the finishing touches on its program for the upcoming Magic of Music Gala at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City on May 9.
The fundraiser, designed to honor “Alzheimer’s heroes,” will help support the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association and the local California Southland community. Jane Lynch and Kate Flannery will serve as the night’s co-hosts — alongside gala chairs and business leaders Peter and Camille Goldstein — and the pair will also perform songs from their “anti-cabaret,” Two Lost Souls. Honorees for the event include the 2014 film Still Alice, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, as well as Maria Shriver and Patrick Schwarzenegger and hosts Lisa Foxx and Valentine.

“We’re excited to co-host this year’s Magic of Music Gala and perform songs from our cabaret show,” said Lynch and Flannery. “Alzheimer’s is a devastating disease that deserves our critical attention. Events like this one are motivating and inspiring to see people rally together to support the vision of the Alzheimer’s Association — a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.”
Also on the program: a menu prepared by Wolfgang Puck Catering, a live auction and dancing. The Tony Guerrero Band will accompany musical performers including Antonia Bennett, daughter of the late Tony Bennett, and Broadway star Yvette Gonzalez-Nacer will also take the stage.
Shriver and son Schwarzenegger will be recognized with the innovators in brain health honor for a commitment to raising awareness of brain health and living a healthy lifestyle. Shriver has been an advocate in the fight against Alzheimer’s for decades while Schwarzenegger donated proceeds from his MOSH protein bars to the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement at Cleveland Clinic.
Hosts Foxx and Valentine from Valentine in the Morning will be presented with music industry honors on behalf of iHeartMedia Los Angeles for its long standing relationship with the Alzheimer’s Association California Southland Chapter.
To mark the 10th anniversary of Still Alice, centered on the impact of Alzheimer’s on a woman (Julianne Moore) and her family, filmmaker Wash Westmoreland will be feted with a film industry honor for the 2014 film that won Moore a best actress Oscar.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone, co-creators of South Park, lend support as symphony sponsors along with the latter’s wife Angela Stone, all longtime supporters of the organization. Tickets and tables for the gala are now on sale.
