Hailee Steinfeld, who voices Gwen Stacy in the acclaimed Spider-Verse movies, will star opposite Michael B. Jordan in Ryan Coogler’s untitled supernatural thriller being made by Warner Bros. Pictures.
The buzzy project, the object of a high-profile bidding war in January, heads before cameras later this month in New Orleans and has been furiously casting up. Wunmi Mosaku, Delroy Lindo and Jack O’Connell, among others, make up the heady call sheet.
Little is known about the project — and what is known has yet to be confirmed by either the studio or Coogler. Insiders say the feature is set in the Jim Crow-era South and possibly involves both vampires and Southern supernatural traditions. Jordan may even be playing dual roles — as twin brothers.

However, some hazy casting details have leaked. Mosaku may be playing Jordan’s romantic interest (but of which twin?); O’Connell may be a racist antagonist; and Steinfeld’s part is all sealed up in a coffin.
Coogler wrote the script and is also producing via his production company Proximity Media. Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian are also producing.
The studio has set a March 7, 2025, release date.
The project, first revealed in January, was the subject of a heated bidding war in the winter, with Warners coming out on top, thanks to a unique deal that will see some of the movie’s rights reverting to the filmmaker over the course of several decades.
Steinfeld was last seen reprising her fan-favorite Hawkeye role of archer Kate Bishop in last year’s The Marvels. She also recently starred in and executive produced Dickinson, Apple TV+’s period comedy-drama centered on author Emily Dickinson that ran for three seasons. She is expected to reprise her role of Gwen Stacy for the final of Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Verse installments, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, currently in production.
Steinfeld is repped by CAA and Howard Fishman.
